Nissan 350Z A/C Compressor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install an Air Conditioning Compressor in Nissan 350Z?
A: Before working on the air conditioning system, have it discharged by a dealer service department or an automotive air conditioning shop. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the top engine cover, the lower engine splash shield, and the drivebelt. For 2007 and later 350Z and G35 Sedans, drain the engine cooling system. Remove the left (driver's) side air filter housing and air duct. Take out the cooling fans and the lower radiator hose. Disconnect the compressor clutch and electronic control valve electrical connectors at the compressor. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor, plug the open fittings to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture, and discard the O-ring seals. Remove the three mounting bolts on the side of the compressor and carefully extract the compressor out from the top of the engine compartment. For 2006 and earlier 350Z, G35 Sedans, and 2007 and earlier G35 Coupes, remove the air filter housing, the intake air duct, and the duct leading to the throttle body. Disconnect the compressor clutch and electronic control valve electrical connectors. Disconnect the refrigerant line fittings from the compressor, plug the open fittings to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture, and discard the O-ring seals. Remove the mounting fasteners and take out the compressor from the bottom of the engine compartment. For all models, if a new compressor is being installed, follow the directions with the compressor regarding the draining of excess oil. Any refrigerant oil added must be compatible with R-134a refrigerant. The clutch may need to be transferred from the original compressor to the new one. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace all O-rings with new ones specifically made for air conditioning system use and compatible with R-134a refrigerant. Lubricate them with refrigerant oil. Tighten the mounting fasteners and the line fitting nuts to the specified torque values. For 2007 and later G35 Sedans and 350Z models, refill the cooling system. Lastly, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak-tested by the shop that initially discharged it.
