  Q: What is the function and importance of the Body Control Module (BCM) in Nissan Murano systems?

  A: The Body Control Module (BCM) receives inputs from various switches and sensors and sends commands, some in the form of multiplex voltage signals, to corresponding components to operate them. Some circuits are controlled by the BCM in conjunction with the IPDM or the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The circuits under BCM control include the combination switch system, signal buffer system, power consumption control system, auto light system, turn signal and hazard warning light system, headlight system, fog light system, daytime running lights system, interior illumination system, interior illumination battery saver system, windshield wiper/washer system, warning chime system, power door lock system, power window system, air conditioning compressor clutch, Nissan Anti-Theft System (NATS), vehicle security system, rear window defogger system, remote keyless entry system, Intelligent Key system, ignition push switch system, electronic steering column lock, tire pressure monitor system, and retained accessory power (RAP) system. The BCM is located at the driver's side of the instrument panel, mounted behind the instrument cluster. Removal and installation of the BCM is not covered due to the need for special equipment to diagnose it and the systems it controls. If the BCM requires replacement, it must be programmed with the same special equipment before it will function, necessitating diagnosis and replacement at a dealer service department or other qualified repair shop equipped with the necessary tools.
