Nissan Quest Distributor Rotor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to check and install spark plug wires,Distributor Cap and Distributor Rotor on Nissan Quest?
A: check the wires of the Spark Plug for any problems that need attention. Inspect visually the wires as the engine runs in an area with enough ventilation. In case there are damaged areas, check for signs of sparking or arcing. If arcing is seen, it should be noted that the distributor cap and rotor should only be checked after replacing them. To ascertain the right order of wires, inspect them individually and write down their numbers or use marked tape if they cannot be visible. While removing a wire from a spark plug, just employ a puller or twist out with soft boots avoiding any tension on themselves. After attaching the boots back onto its respective plug, ensure that it fits well without having any defects or poor contact. Clean it using a piece of cloth rag, look at it keenly for burns and avoid forming sharp bends on it. Pull off the distributor cap by pulling up on its boot; after that, test for tightness as well as corrosion. Closely look at both wires going from your distributor to each spark plug to verify they are all connected properly. If you need new spark plug wires, buy an entire set specifically made for your type of engine so you can change them one by one while keeping the firing order intact. The distributor cap should also be examined for cracks, carbon tracks and worn out/burned contacts which have occurred over time and thus are no longer functional while the rotor needs to be gone through for cracks and carbon tracks. Replace the cap and rotor as needed when installing new spark plug wires. If you are reusing your old cap then measure resistance between spark plug wires and cap; replace any whose resistance exceeds maximum value. Whenever you are putting in brand-new caps do it sequentially so that you don't break this order otherwise refer to firing order diagrams in case of confusion.
