Nissan Xterra Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the tie-rod end on Nissan Xterra?
A: Begin by loosening the wheel lug nuts and jacking up the front of the vehicle on jackstands in order to remove and install tie-rod end on various Nissan models. Take off the wheel and loosen the jam nut for the tie rod end. To use it as a reference point, do not completely back it off. The nut on the tie-rod end ballstud must be unscrewed after removing the cotter pin. With a puller, separate the tie-rod end from steering knuckle arm while leaving the aforementioned nut. For prevention of violent separation, leave the nut on. By unscrewing it, get rid of any tie-rod ends from their rods. Prior to loosening the adjuster sleeve clamp bolt nut, obtain a count of how many thread are sticking out from adjuster sleeve for some models. Remove its tie-rod end as well. In case one needs to install another cotter pin it is necessary to put together and install this thing as follows: screw onto the rod until meeting with a jam nut, next insert into steering arm; Install ballstud nut and tighten it according to torque specifications; Get a new cotter pin; If needed adjust further tightening to align slots with hole in ballstud (nut). Securely tighten jam nut, replace wheel and lower car down in finally; Finally, tighten lug nuts to torque specified and have front end alignment checked and adjusted if required.
