    Q:
What steps should be followed before starting the removal procedure of the transfer case on Nissan Armada? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before starting the removal procedure, ensure the transfer assembly is set to 2WD. Begin by positioning the 4WD selector switch to 2WD and turning off the vehicle, then disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, removing the skid plate if equipped. For models with a rear auto-leveling suspension, turn the ignition key to the OFF position before raising the vehicle. Next, remove the main muffler and related exhaust pipes, disconnect the two vent tubes from the shift actuator and transfer case, and drain the transfer case lubricant. Remove the front and rear driveshafts, inserting a rubber plug into the rear seal after the rear driveshaft has been removed. Unplug all electrical connectors and detach the vent hose from the top of the transfer case. Support the transmission with a floor jack, using a block of wood to spread the load, and support the transfer case with a jack, preferably a special jack designed for this purpose, using safety chains for stability. Remove the crossmember that supports the transmission, then lower the jacks just enough to access the upper mounting fasteners. Remove the bolts securing the transfer case to the transmission, noting that there may be two different lengths of bolts; mark their positions or keep them in order for reinstallation. After ensuring all wires and hoses are disconnected, move the transfer case and jack toward the rear of the vehicle until the transfer case is clear of the transmission, keeping it level during this process. Once the input shaft is clear, lower the transfer case and remove it from under the vehicle. For installation, follow the reverse order of removal, applying anaerobic liquid gasket sealant to the transfer case-to-transmission mating surface, ensuring the transmission-to-transfer case bolts are installed in their proper locations and tightened to the specified torque, and refilling the transfer case with the correct type and quantity of lubricant while checking that the 4WD shift indicator corresponds to the position of the transfer case.
