To complete the removal of the steering column you will have to first unplug the negative cable on the battery, followed by the removal of the steering wheel as well as the column covers. Unplug the combination switch and the steering lock switch, and remove nearly all the parts of the steering column support bracket, most of the clamp nuts, and bolts, but leave a few to hold the steering column up. Subsequently, unbolt the column lower joint with the 10mm open end wrench, pull out the column to fit the match mark for the correct installation orientation, and then slide out the column spline shaft without scratching the column tube jacket insulator. For installation, first, slide the column spline shaft into the lower joint; then, tighten all the fasteners to the point where they can be picked up with fingers; finally, torque the lower joint bolt to the desired range while ensuring right orientation of the part. Once all the fasteners in the steering bracket and clamp have been tightened, connect the appropriate wiring, fasten the column covers and the steering wheel, and connect the negative terminal of the battery again. Last of all, rotate the steering wheel from stop to stop in order check the functionality and then make the turns equally to both stops. For overhaul, position the removed steering column for disassembly, turn the steering wheel to unlock the steering lock and using the key to lock, and remove the snapring to disassemble the various parts with out reusing the snapring. When assembling use grease on the column bearing and lower bushing, do not apply to much force on the column shaft and check or re-fix the snapring properly. With tilt type columns, the tilt mechanism mounting bracket needs to be removed, as do the various components of the tilt mechanism assembly; the lower and upper steering jacket tube assemblies also need to be disassembled, but care must be taken when dealing with the column spring. During construction use grease and properly place components and set the tilt mechanism real well so it would move ably.
