On models equipped with Vehicle Dynamic Control, the vehicle will require steering angle sensor calibration after the procedure according to the manufacturer. Special tools are necessary; consult a dealership service department or a qualified repair location. To remove the steering column, park the vehicle with the wheels pointing straight ahead. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Disable the airbag system. Remove the steering wheel, and the combination switch housing. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position to prevent the steering shaft from turning. Remove the knee bolster and the reinforcement behind it. Remove the steering column covers. Disconnect the shift cable from the column shift lever and the key interlock cable from the steering column, if equipped. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the steering column and detach the harness from the column. Mark the relationship of the intermediate shaft coupler to the steering column shaft. Remove the shaft coupler nut and bolt. Discard the nut. Remove the steering column mounting fasteners, lower the column and pull it to the rear, making sure nothing is still connected. Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering shaft and remove the column. To install, guide the steering column into position, connect the intermediate shaft coupler, then install the mounting fasteners, but don't tighten them yet. Install the pinch bolt using a new nut and tightening it. Tighten the column mounting fasteners. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
