Follow these calculations to determine the proper amount of refrigerant oil to add to the new compressor: Drain the refrigerant oil from the old compressor through the suction fitting and measure it in ounces. Drain any new oil from the new compressor. If the amount of oil drained from the old compressor was between 3 to 5 ounces, add that same amount of clean, new oil to the new compressor. If the amount of oil drained from the old compressor was less than 3 ounces, add 3 ounces of clean, new oil to the new compressor. If the amount of oil drained from the old compressor was more than 5 ounces, add 5 ounces of clean, new oil to the new compressor.
