For timing belt removal, set the No. 1 cylinder at TDC (Top Dead Center) on the compression stroke and remove the front upper and lower timing belt covers. Loosen the timing belt tensioner and return spring, then remove the timing belt.

Begin by loosening the alternator drive belt adjusting screw and removing the drive belt. Then, remove the alternator bracket bolts to set the alternator aside. If necessary, mark and remove the distributor. Remove the oil pump attaching screws to take out the pump and its drive spindle. Also, remove the cooling fan, fan pulley, and drive belt. Proceed to remove the water pump and the crankshaft pulley bolt.
