    Q:
How do you check and replace a worn transmission mount on Nissan 350Z? Posted by Customer
    A:
To check the transmission mount, insert a large screwdriver or prybar into the space between the transmission and the crossmember and attempt to pry the transmission up; any separation of the rubber indicates that the mount is worn out. For replacement, first remove the transmission crossmember mounting bolts, then take out the through-bolt attaching the mount to the crossmember along with the two bolts securing the mount to the transmission. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring that all nuts and bolts are tightened to the specified torque.

    Q:
What are the steps involved in replacing engine and transmission mounts on Nissan 350Z? Posted by Customer
    A:
Concerning the mounts, there are two engine mounts and one transmission mount and they are as follows Engine mounts are fitted to the engine block in the passenger compartment and the driver compartment where they attach to each frame rail; One of the transmission mounts is situated in the rear of the transmission while the other is attached to the transmission crossmember. The car should be properly secured on jack stands, and engine/transmission should be supported by a hoist or a three bar support fixture. Any movement observed while inspecting should make the engine be lowered in order to increase the tension of the mount fasteners, and rubber preservative should then be applied on the mounts as this will halt internal deterioration. To remove the mounts, first, separate the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, engage the parking brake and then place the car on stands at the rear. With the front of the vehicle raised and the splash shields pulled out, the nuts for the engine mount to frame bolts have to be removed together with the nuts of the engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts located in the engine bay. Special attention is paid to noted not to remove the engine mount heat insulator cover retaining bolts, as this can lead to leakage of the damper oil. A engineered hoist should be positioned on the top of the engine to lift it, they should not use jack, under oil pan since it can damage the oil pump pick-up. The entire engine should be raised about 5 cm to be able to remove the engine mount, while the brackets of the engine mount can be unscrewed after the four bolts holding it on each side have been removed. These procedures are basically the opposite of removal, some thread locking compound is applied on the mount nuts before tightening it to the prescribed torque.
