It is important that the headlights are aimed correctly to avoid blinding the driver of an oncoming vehicle, which could lead to serious accidents or impair visibility on the road. Headlights should be checked for proper aim every 12 months and whenever a new headlight is installed or front end body work is performed. The following procedure provides a temporary adjustment until a properly equipped shop can make the necessary changes. All models have one adjustment screw in each headlight housing, allowing for vertical adjustment only. To adjust the headlights, position a blank wall 25 feet in front of the vehicle on a level floor. Use masking tape to mark the vehicle centerline and the centerlines of both headlights on the wall, and add a horizontal tape line in reference to the centerline of all headlights, which may be easier with the vehicle parked just a few inches away. Ensure the vehicle is level, with the gas tank half-full and no unusually heavy load. For low beam adjustment, position the high intensity zone two inches below the horizontal line. With the high beams on, the high intensity zone should be vertically centered just below the horizontal line. It may not be possible to achieve perfect positioning for both high and low beams, so prioritize low beams for safety. Have the headlights adjusted by a dealer service department or service station as soon as possible.
