Subsequently, pull out the valve cover and the rocker arm shafts, carry out the push-down test again. If air is present replace the Lash Adjuster. When the Lash Adjusters are removed, check them for wear and then, apply clean engine oil to each of them; to reinstall the Lash Adjusters, it is as simple as how they were removed. During the camshaft removal procedure, one must first take off the cylinder heads, secondly, to loose the cover plate bolts and thirdly, and gently tilt the camshaft cover plate off. While this is being done on the corresponding end, turning is done to loosen the retaining bolt so that the camshaft holding lugs retain the thrust plate while it is being removed. Very gently, turn the camshaft oil seal counterclockwise and also gently twist the camshaft upward using the wrench lest you mar the bearing surfaces. Bolt another dial indicator in contact with the end play, shift the camshaft backward and set down the dial indicator then shift the camshaft to the front and take another reading. If the endplay is of the order of say 0.020 to 0.030 inches, progressively measure the old plate and if it is beyond this limit, then get a new plate to ensure that the end play does not exceed this range. The rest of the cylinder head assembly is done is reverse of the above procedure. When jumping a camshaft, take out the old seal and using and after placing the camshaft in, use the seal installation tool to force the new seal into place until it engages the cylinder head.

Take off the rocker arm cover and the rocker arm shaft assemblies in the Ford Escape hybrid. Tighten the lash adjusters by lifting them slightly and placing a rubber band on respective lash adjusters so that they do not fall out of the guides while being tightened; in case a lash adjuster drops off, place it in their respective guide. Take out the hydraulic lash adjuster guide assembly and thereafter take out each of the hydraulic lash adjusters from their holes, the arrangement of each lash adjuster must be the same as that of the bore it was removed from in order to be reinserted into the same location. If you think air is trapped, tighten the rocker arm and its cover and purge air from the lash adjuster for 10 minutes by advancing the engine and adding no load at 1,000 rpm. Then, take out the rocker arm cover and the rocker arm back and forward to listen for air; if air is present, replace the lash adjuster. When the lash adjusters are taken out, check for wearing signs on them. After the inspection is complete with the lash adjusters and other components, return the lash adjusters back to their bores, put back the rocker arm shaft assemblies and the rocker arm covers.

By rotating in twist squeeze motion pull oronsealpacificcamshaft out of cylinder head (Olay/Weisman Architects). Camshafts are lubricated on bearing journals and lobes using moly-based engine assembly lube before they are cautiously placed into position in the cylinder head (Olay/Weisman Architects). Install camshaft thrust plates with their retaining bolts and ensure that I have checked if my camshafts have any end play (Olay/Weisman Architects). In case endplay does not fall within certain range then thrust plate has to be replaced (Olay/Weisman Architects). Set up camshaft oil seal thus finishing assembling cylinder head.

If any measurements fall outside standard wear limits, replace the camshaft or the cylinder head, or both.

Disconnect the battery cable, then remove the valve cover and air intake duct.

Apply moly-based engine assembly lubricant and place the new camshafts in the cylinder head.

If air is trapped, reinstall the rocker arm shaft assemblies and valve cover, and bleed the air from the lifters by running the engine at 1,000 rpm for about 10 minutes.

Subtract each cam journal outside diameter from its respective cam bearing tunnel inside diameter to compute the oil clearance for each bearing. Compare the results to the specified journal to bearing clearance.

The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. If any part of the valve train was replaced, check and adjust the valve clearance.

During the inspection process, lifter contact and sliding surfaces, including valve lifters and valve adjusting shims for 2.4L and 3.5L engines, should be inspected.

Install the camshaft sprockets and timing chain. Hold the camshafts with a suitable wrench as you tighten the sprocket bolts to the specified torque.

Install the camshaft sprocket bolts, ensuring they are correctly matched to the camshafts, and then tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

During the inspection process, lifter contact and sliding surfaces, including valve lifters and valve adjusting shims for 2.4L and 3.5L engines, should be inspected.

Remove the bearing caps and camshafts, noting the camshaft markings for correct installation. Remove the lifters and shims from the cylinder head, keeping the proper shim with each lifter and maintaining their order for reinstallation.

Check camshaft runout by placing the camshaft between two V-blocks or back into the cylinder head and set up a dial indicator on the center journal. Zero the dial indicator, turn the camshaft slowly, and note the dial indicator readings. Record your readings and compare them with the specified runout in this Chapter. If the measured runout exceeds the specified runout, replace the camshaft.

Secure the lifters by raising them slightly and wrapping a rubber band around each one to prevent them from falling out of the guides. If a lifter falls out, return it to its original location immediately.

Remove the upper and lower intake plenums and the valve covers. Then, remove the timing chains and the camshaft sprockets.
