To remove the starter motor, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the splash shield from under the engine (if equipped). Disconnect the battery cable and the solenoid terminal connection from the starter solenoid. Unplug the electrical connector and battery cable from the starter motor. Unscrew the starter motor mounting bolts and detach the starter from the engine. To reinstall, switch the removal steps going from the last step to the first step.

If the starter doesn't activate, proceed with the following steps: Check fusible links and fuses related to the starting circuit. Examine the Park/Neutral position switch (for automatic transmissions) or clutch interlock switch (for manual transmissions). Check the anti-theft alarm circuit and control module. Assess the engine for possible seizure.

Initially, check the following components: Battery cable clamps and connections. Battery cables and their condition. Battery condition. Starter solenoid wiring and connections. Starter mounting bolts. The S terminal on the starter solenoid for voltage.
