Reassemble the connecting rod caps and bearing inserts in their respective rods and install the cap nuts finger tight to prevent accidental damage to the bearing surfaces. Avoid separating the pistons from the connecting rods.

Rotate the crankshaft to bring the number one connecting rod journal to bottom dead center and apply engine oil to the cylinder walls. Insert the piston/connecting rod assembly into the cylinder bore with the notch facing the timing belt end, ensuring the "W" mark is oriented correctly. Gently tap the ring compressor to ensure contact with the block and carefully drive the piston into the cylinder while guiding the connecting rod onto the crankshaft journal, avoiding any force that could damage the components.

A piston ring groove-cleaning tool should be used to remove carbon deposits from the ring grooves, or a piece broken off the old ring can suffice, ensuring no metal is removed or grooves are damaged.
