Rotate the crankshaft to bring the number one connecting rod journal to bottom dead center and apply engine oil to the cylinder walls. Insert the piston/connecting rod assembly into the cylinder bore with the notch facing the timing belt end, ensuring the "W" mark is oriented correctly. Gently tap the ring compressor to ensure contact with the block and carefully drive the piston into the cylinder while guiding the connecting rod onto the crankshaft journal, avoiding any force that could damage the components.

Use your fingernail to feel for ridges.

Before reinstalling the rod cap, a clean moly-base grease or engine assembly lube should be applied to the bearing faces.

Ensuring clear oil return holes in the back sides of the ring grooves is essential to maintain proper lubrication of the piston rings and cylinder walls.
