The oil pump is a sealed unit that must be replaced if there is a problem. It is located inside the timing chain cover and the upper oil pan, driven by a chain from the crankshaft; on 1.6L engines, it is mounted inside the front of the oil pan, while on 1.8L engines, it is found inside the lower bottom of the oil pan. To remove it, first take off the timing chain cover, timing chain, and oil pump drive chain. For 1.8L engines, the lower oil pan must also be removed. Next, remove the pump mounting bolts in the reverse order of the tightening sequence, then take out the oil pump and discard the O-rings. For installation, place two new O-rings into the grooves of the upper oil pan, install the pump, and tighten the fasteners in sequence to the specified torque. After that, install the oil pump drive chain, timing chain, and timing chain cover, applying a bead of RTV sealant on the cover-to-block surface. Install a new oil filter and add engine oil to the crankcase. Start the engine to check for oil pressure and leaks, reconnect the battery, and perform the necessary re-learn procedures. Finally, recheck the engine oil level.
