    Q:
How to overhaul CV joints and CV Boot on Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the CV joints have to be overhauled, generally because of worn boots, one should look for all probable solutions before undertaking the job because complete rebuilt drive axles are now available on exchange basis and therefore, it will be more time-saving. However, before removing the parts of the vehicle, it is wise to compare prices and the market for the spare parts. Starting with the removal of the axle, you will need to first unscrew both the boot clamps and discard the item before shifting the boot to the side. When assembling the unit it will be important to label the shaft, inner race, cage and outer race so that they can be reinserted in the correct way. Lift the wire ring bearing retainer and extract the fitting of the housing from the inner bearing assembly, get ready for loose bearings. Derotate the snap-ring from axleshaft groove and slip-off the inner race from the axleshaft with the help of penetrant and mild hammering if required. Take the ball bearings out of the cage in such a way that no part gets scratched and reduce the cage. With a solvent, clean all of the parts and if there is wear or if any part is damaged, it should be noted. For reassembly for the axleshaft splines, then put the boot and clamps on the axleshaft the boot side is protected using tape. Place the cage in such a manner that the window with the smaller diameter is directed towards the center, after which, secure a new stop ring and the inner race having the matchmark aligned. Place the snap-ring and shift the cage over the inner race trapping the ball bearings in place. Pack the outer race with the same grease, and ensure that the boot, the inner race and the cage assembly is filled with CV joint grease. Slide the inner assembly into the CV joint housing and install the wire ring bearing retainer, and make sure that no balls drop off. Remove the injections and advance the rear clamp, tighten the bolt to secure the boot. Like the above mentioned joints, in tripod style joints, care is taken to disassemble and reassemble in correct positions and lubrication is also a criterion. When servicing outer CV joints, release the boot clamps, then clean the joint thoroughly and It is recommended to check and have the joint machined if there is an excessive wear before the final packing of the boot along with greasing it and fixing the boot tightly. Finally, install the driveaxle.

    Q:
What steps should be taken for a steering and suspension check for the 1996 Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
    A:
For the steering and suspension check, visually inspect components for damage, distortion, and leaks, particularly at seals, boots, and bushings. Clean the lower end of the steering knuckle and have an assistant move the wheel in and out to check for movement at the ball joint; any movement indicates a need for replacement.
