1. Slide the clamps and boot onto the axle shaft, wrapping the splines with tape. 2. Place the tripod on the shaft, ensuring the marks are aligned, and install a new snap-ring. 3. Apply grease to the tripod assembly, joint housing, and boot. 4. Place the outer race over the tripod, aligning the marks. 5. Slide the boot into place. 6. Adjust the length of the joint and equalize the pressure in the boot. 7. Tighten the boot clamps. 8. Install the drive axle assembly (see Section 11).

To check the shock absorbers, park the vehicle on level ground, turn off the engine, and set the parking brake while checking tire pressures. Push down on one corner of the vehicle and release it; it should stop moving and return to a level position within one or two bounces. If it continues to move or fails to return, the shock absorber may be worn. Repeat this check at the other corners.
