First, to remove the outer CV joint from a driveshaft, separate the driveshaft and release the clips that hold the rubber gaiter. After that, expose an outer constant velocity joint by rolling back rubber gaiter and clear off old grease or dirt. Again, if you are reusing the old joint, it may be necessary to mark alignment between the joint and driveshaft. Use a brass drift with hammer upon hitting towards central area of outer joint in order to push it off while circlip is being removed. The old gaiter and circlip should be taken out. Check also for damage on this joint by cleaning it; replace whole joint assembly where its components are either worn out or damaged. If this is well maintained change gaiter kit with circlips, new grease etc. Smaller gaiter securing clip is slotted first onto the drive shaft followed by actual gaiter. Then new joint retaining circlip comes in place on shaft. Apply half of the supplied grease into the outer joint after aligning it with splines of shaft and tapping it in place until circlip correctly engages with its seat pack hole in remaining grease ensuring filling all recesses; check that gaiter is properly placed, slide it on to outer joints and secure using retaining clips. To change inner CVJ remove drive shaft and also take away outer CVJ and their associated boots/gaiters if any. Where harmonic dampers are fitted mark orientation then free them from position using retaining clips before removing them if they exist here; pull off boots before cleaning inner parts of these joints one at a time; check for wear on each section under examination (for example; when worn out replace). In case this component is healthy buy repair set including new boot(s), springs as well as lubricating oil for approach slides among other things; in addition use special clamps that help to keep seals on two sides of the CVJ in proper position. In order to properly fit the gaiter into new boot, slide this one on to the drive shaft while packing other with grease so as it gets into all holes; check correct placement of this gaiter, secure it by means retaining clips and then if any put back dampers (by sliding) in their respective previous positions on driveshaft and hold them with new securing clamp(s). Finally, fit outer CVJ together with its boot just like described earlier on and reinstall drive-shaft.
