Q:
How do you replace a front crankshaft seal without causing oil leaks on V6 Nissan Altima? Posted by Customer
A:
Pull off the crankshaft pulley and using a seal removing tool or an equally big screwdriver, gently pull out the seal from the cover not causing any scratch, gouge or distorted area of the seal where it fits to avoid oil leak. Scrub the bore with the purpose of removing the old seal material and corrosion; insert the new seal in such a way that the seal lip will be inside towards the engine and a little bit of oil on the outer periphery of the seal piece. Submerge the seal into the bore using a large socket and hammer, then use a new seal that has an outside diameter of the above and hammer it in such a way that it sits perfectly flat on the face of the case. Check the flat DAMPER surface which is in contact with the OIL SEAL; if it has grooved and reciprocated round the seal for sometime it leaked so you have to remove and replace with a new one CRANKSHAFT PULLEY. Dip the seal lips in engine oil and replace the crankshaft pulley and bolt it in position and tight it up to the recommended torque. Perform actions opposite to the removal process, and then start the engine, and look for signs of oil leakage.

Q:
How can a press-on sleeve be installed for the 1994 Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
A:
The press-on sleeve can be installed using a hammer and a block of wood, typically found at most auto parts stores.

Q:
How can a seal installation tool be fabricated for the 2007 Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
A:
Fabricate a seal installation tool using a short length of pipe slightly smaller than the seal's outside diameter, ensuring the end is free of sharp edges. A long bolt matching the crankshaft pulley bolt thread pitch and a large washer slightly larger than the pipe will also be needed.

Q:
What should be considered when working the lip of the new seal onto the crankshaft for the 1994 Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
A:
The lip is stiff, so work it onto the seal journal of the crankshaft without rushing, as this may damage the seal.
Posted by NissanPartsDeal Specialist
Q:
What should be checked before installing the new seal for the 2004 Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
A:
The seal contact surface should be checked very carefully for scratches and nicks that could damage the new seal lip and cause oil leaks. If the crankshaft is damaged, a new or different crankshaft is required.

Q:
What can be used if a seal installation tool is unavailable for the 2004 Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
A:
A large socket, section of pipe, or a blunt tool can be used to carefully drive the new seal into position.
