    Q:
How to replace the transmission speed sensors on Nissan Murano? Posted by Customer
    A:
The speed sensors of the transmission are on the top of the transaxle. The primary sensor measures the speed of the primary pulley whereas the secondary one records the speed of the output shaft. Begin with detaching from it, in between them and after that disassemble them and throw away the O present in it. Place a certain amount of transmission fluid on to the new O-ring before putting it into place. This process is just opposite of removing process.

    Q:
What is the purpose of the VSS and how can a defective sensor cause problems on Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
    A:
The VSS is a permanent magnet generator mounted on the transaxle case. It produces an AC voltage sine wave, the frequency of which is proportional to vehicle speed. The PCM uses the sensor input signal for several different engine and transmission control functions. The vehicle speed sensor signal also drives the speedometer on the instrument panel. A defective vehicle speed sensor can cause various driveability and transmission problems. The PCM can detect sensor problems and set trouble codes to indicate specific faults. This check procedure does not cover 2000 and later models. These later models are equipped with an updated engine management system. Because of the complexity of this system, have the vehicle tested by a dealer service department or other qualified automotive repair shop. Remove the vehicle speed sensor from the transaxle as described. Connect a voltmeter to the two terminals of the vehicle speed sensor, set the meter on the AC scale and spin the sensor drive gear by hand. The sensor should generate approximately 0.5 volts AC. If no AC voltage signal is produced, replace the sensor. If the vehicle speed sensor is good, check for continuity between the sensor connector and the instrument cluster. If the wiring is good, have the instrument cluster and PCM diagnosed by a dealer service department or other qualified repair shop. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector from the vehicle speed sensor. Remove the hold-down bolt and clamp and remove the vehicle speed sensor from the transaxle. Inspect the O-ring on the sensor and replace it if damaged. If you are installing a new sensor, use a new O-ring. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
Where are the speed sensors located on the 2009 Nissan Versa? Posted by Customer
    A:
CVT transaxles have three speed sensors: primary, secondary, and output. The primary sensor is on the outboard side, facing the left wheel. The secondary sensor is at the rear, facing the firewall, and the output sensor is at the rear, facing the left wheel. To replace these sensors, you should loosen the left front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, remove the left front wheel, remove the left fender inner fender splash shield, disconnect the sensor electrical connector, remove the mounting bolt, and remove the sensor. Don't forget to discard the old O-ring and apply transmission fluid to the new O-ring during installation.

    Q:
What does the primary speed sensor sense for the 2009 Nissan Altima? Posted by Customer
    A:
The primary speed sensor senses the speed of the primary pulley.
