Fit the chain front fixed guide and tighten its bolts, then fit the chain rear tensioner guide and locate it. Install the chain tensioner, tighten its bolts, and check that the plunger takes up slack in the chain. Verify that all timing marks are aligned, fit the crankshaft pulley, turn the engine two complete turns to check alignment, then remove the crankshaft pulley, refit the timing chain cover, and finally, refit the crankshaft pulley and cylinder head cover.

Set the engine at the TDC position for Nos 1 and 4 pistons by temporarily refitting the crankshaft pulley and turning the crankshaft until the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets are positioned correctly.
