To remove the wheel cylinder, first raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, blocking the front wheels to prevent rolling. Next, remove the brake shoe assembly and clean all dirt and foreign material from around the wheel cylinder. Disconnect the brake line using a flare-nut wrench if available, ensuring not to pull the line away from the cylinder. Then, remove the wheel cylinder mounting bolts and detach the cylinder from the brake backing plate, placing it on a clean workbench while immediately plugging the brake line to prevent fluid loss and contamination. For installation, position the new wheel cylinder and install the bolts finger tight, connecting the brake line carefully to avoid cross-threading. Tighten the wheel cylinder bolts to the specified torque, secure the brake line, and install the brake shoes. Finally, bleed the brakes and check their operation carefully before driving the vehicle.
