    Q:
How to remove a strut and Coil Springs on Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheels. Unclip the brake hose from the strut bracket and detach it from the bracket. Also remove the bolt and unclip the ABS speed sensor harness from the strut. Remove the nut and detach the stabilizer bar link from the strut. Remove the strut-to-knuckle nuts and knock the bolts out with a hammer and punch. Separate the strut from the steering knuckle. If equipped with adjustable shock absorbers, unplug the electrical connector from the shock absorber actuator and unbolt the actuator from the top of the strut tower. Remove the three strut upper mounting nuts. Support the strut with one hand before removing the last nut. Remove the assembly out from the fenderwell. Check the strut body for leaking fluid, dents, cracks and other obvious damage which would warrant repair or replacement. Check the coil spring for chips or cracks in the spring coating. Inspect the spring seat for cuts, hardness and general deterioration. If any undesirable conditions exist, proceed to the strut disassembly procedure. Guide the strut assembly up into the fenderwell and insert the upper mounting studs through the holes in the shock tower. Once the studs protrude from the shock tower, install the nuts so the strut won't fall back through. Slide the steering knuckle into the strut flange and insert the bolts. Guide the brake hose through its bracket in the strut and install the retaining clip. Clip the ABS speed sensor grommet into its bracket, then install the harness bolt and tighten it securely. Install the wheel and lug nuts, then lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts. Tighten the upper mounting nuts. If equipped with adjustable shock absorbers, install the shock absorber actuator, ensuring that the cutout in the actuator aligns with the control rod in the center of the piston rod. Tighten the bolts securely.

    Q:
What tool should be used to compress the spring, and why for the 2002 Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
    A:
You should use a spring compressor to compress the spring sufficiently to relieve all pressure from the upper spring seat. This can be verified by wiggling the spring.
