To perform an operating check, depress the brake pedal several times with the engine off to ensure there's no change in the pedal reserve distance, then start the engine and depress the pedal; a slight drop indicates normal operation. For an airtightness check, start the engine and turn it off after one or two minutes, then slowly depress the brake pedal several times; if the pedal depresses less each time, the booster is airtight. While the engine is running, depress the brake pedal, stop the engine with the pedal depressed, and if there's no change in the pedal reserve travel after holding for 30 seconds, the booster is airtight. When replacing the power brake booster, which should not be disassembled due to its complexity and critical role in brake performance, first remove the battery, air filter housing, and intake duct, then disconnect the vacuum hose from the booster. Next, remove the master cylinder, driver's side knee bolster and support, and the knee bolster support bracket. Detach the clevis from the brake pedal by removing the pin and safety clip, disconnect the electrical connectors to the brake pedal switches, and remove the brake pedal assembly mounting nuts. For 2014 and later models (except Rogue Select), the brake pedal assembly can remain in place after removing the mounting nuts. For 2013 and earlier models and 2014 and later Rogue Select models, remove the remaining brake booster mounting nut, take out the booster, and separate the spacer. Before installing the new booster, measure the booster input rod length and adjust if necessary. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring a new gasket is used between the booster and the firewall. For adjustment on 2013 and earlier models and 2014 and later Rogue Select models, measure the distance between the power brake booster and the hole in the input rod clevis, compare it to the specified dimension, and if necessary, adjust the clevis before installation, connecting it to the brake pedal and tightening the nut securely.
