The brake pedal released height, freeplay, and depressed height should also be checked and adjusted if necessary.

To replace the power brake booster, follow these steps: Remove the brake master cylinder. Disconnect the vacuum hose leading from the engine to the booster. Remove the under-dash panel. Remove the clevis pin retaining clip with pliers and pull out the clevis pin. Remove the four nuts holding the brake booster to the firewall. Slide the booster straight out from the firewall until the studs clear the holes. Measure the distance between the power brake booster and the hole in the clevis and compare it to the specified booster-to-clevis dimension. If the measurement isn't the same, loosen the adjusting nut and turn the clevis in or out to achieve the specified length. Then, tighten the nut.

For drum brakes, make sure the parking brake is off and tap on the outside of the drum to loosen it. Remove the brake drums and clean the brake assembly.

Proper adjustment of the output rod length and clevis position ensures that the brake booster operates correctly and maintains the appropriate brake pedal feel and response.
