To remove the gear change cables, release them from the gear lever housing assembly. Remove the battery and battery tray, and if necessary, the air cleaner assembly for better access. Disconnect the cable ends from the ball joints on the transmission selector levers. Depress the upper tabs and withdraw the outer cables from the transmission mounting bracket. Apply the handbrake, jack up the front of the vehicle, and remove the heat shield from under the centre tunnel. Unclip the outer cables from the support bracket, release the rubber grommet, and withdraw the cables from under the vehicle.
