When disconnecting the cables, always take off the connection from the negative terminal of the battery and connect it first, or you can easily create a short circuit with what you are using to remove the cable clamps. This is more so when you are only replacing the cable for the positive terminal, you should remove the negative cable from the battery. Remove the cables from the battery starting with the number given by the manufacturer and follow each of the cables up to their respective ends and then remove them. As a rule, it is necessary to remember the position of the cabel before its disconnection for correct its placing. When replacing any of the cables it is important that you carry with you the old cables to the shops. You should ensure that the cables are replaced with similar parts because this is very vital. Wipe the threads of the solenoid or the ground connection by using wire brush to reduce the amount of rust and corrosion. Use a small amount of battery terminal corrosion inhibitor or petroleum jelly to the threads so as for them not to corrode again in future. Connect the cable with the solenoid or ground connection by the means of the mounting nut/bolt and tighten it. Before connecting a new cable to the battery, pull one of the ends of the cables to the battery post in such a way that you should not stretch and connect it. First, link the end of the cable to the positive terminal and secondly link the ground cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
