Since turning the hand brake lever fully engages it, pull it up and rotate with your fingers until it reaches the full lock position, and count the notches as thus; 200SX, 240SX, 9-11 inches for 1982-1988 Stanza Sedan, 11-13 inches for 1989-92 Stanza Sedan, 11-17 inches for 2WD Stanza wagons, and Upon the release of the parking brake, apart from the 200SX, adjust the lever stroke by turning a split pin on the lock and adjusting bolt to a required position to decrease the notch contact for full engagement of the parking brake then tightening the lock nut. The locknut and adjuster of hand brake are usually within the hand brake assembly in the passenger compartment, thence one will have to remove both the parking brake console or use an access hole to get to them. For 200SX, turn the equalizer which is located under the vehicle to change the lever stroke. Adjust and check again if needed; the rear brake levers at the calipers should return to their fully off positions and the rear cables should have no looseness when the lever is released. To remove and install the front cable, pull the parking brake switch, turn the heat insulator and remove parking brake console box if exists, remove the front passenger seat if necessary, disconnect the warning lamp switch plate connector, remove the lug bolt and sleeve nut on the floor, from bottom side of the automobile, unlock the adjusting nut and equalizer and pull the front cable through the compartment. At times, one must release and detach the front cable from the lever together with breaking the pin. Installation is done in the reverse order of removal with an adjustment of the lever stroke as well. For the rear cable, slacken the tension in the cable by turning the adjusting nut or equalizer anti-clockwise, remove the nut at the back end of the cable, at the rear part of the car, remove the lock plate that is fixed on the rear suspension member, detach the rear suspension arm cable and the brake cable, and finally, exhaust the cable. Removal is a process of negation of the installation followed by the slight change in the lever stroke.
