Timing is very critical and one wrong move on it is very disastrous; it can greatly affect or damage the engine. This operation should be performed by highly qualified people only and if there is any doubt about qualifications one should seek professional advice. Very correct the math twice to avoid making a mistake during the operation of the engine. As for the 2014 and later models (except for Rogue Select ones), the manufacturer prescribes the removal of the engine for this operation, although performing the timing chain assembly service without removing the engine from the vehicle is described. If the engine is removed, certain proceeding steps should be disregarded. These models incorporate a balance shaft drive chain and assembly that cannot be separated. Starting from cylinder number one, the engine should be set at TDC and the negative terminal of the battery should be removed. Lose the right front wheel lug nuts, safely lift the vehicle on jack stands and remove the right front wheel. First, you need to go to the inner fenderwell splash shield and then drain the engine oil, further, you need to get rid of the coolant reservoir, alternator, valve cover, and intake manifold. Mounting of the engine from above, how should the oil pans be removed and how should the Intake Valve Timing control solenoids electrical connectors be disconnected as and when needed. Unbolt and double the sprocket cover and also, the upper chain cover with the camshaft sprockets centralized on TDC number 1. Loosen the crank shaft pulley while making sure that the crank shaft is not spinning and then, take all the bolts and note where they are to be placed while removing the timing chain cover. The tensioner is locked in the retracted position, and the timing chain is taken out; additionally, it is necessary to hold the cam shaft while loosening the bolts of the camshaft sprocket. Disengage the balance shaft chain tensioner, and, then, take off the balance shaft chain and the unit. Check the camshaft, idler, and crankshaft sprockets and wear of chains; and condition of chain guides. For installation, it is recommended that new bolts be used for balance shaft unit and the torque and sequence must be followed. Oil pump/balance shaft install the drive chain crankshaft sprocket in the direction of the arrow, and the links with the color must match the mating mark. Bolt on the tensioner and make sure alignment marks on the drive chain match by removing the staking pin to apply tension. Inserting the timing chain, making them face each other with their colored side and fitting the guide and tensioner while removing the stopper pin. Fit the timing chain cover and camshaft sprocket cover then tighten the bolt in the specified sequence and apply RTV sealant on them. The rest of the installation process is the reversal of the removal process above. Among the pre-start engine checks, one should turn the crankshaft at least two revolutions manually, and it should be rather tight, which is a sign of a problem. Connect the battery terminal and do those required re-learn processes.
