Hydraulic fluid can damage paint, so take care not to spill any on the painted surfaces of the car. From inside the vehicle, disconnect the master cylinder pushrod from the pedal arm. Place newspapers or rags under the master cylinder to catch any spilled hydraulic fluid. Siphon the reservoir or disconnect the fluid line from the master cylinder and drain the fluid. For clearance, remove the windshield washer tank by lifting it straight up from its retaining bracket, then position it so it will not interfere with the removal of the master cylinder. Remove the master cylinder flange mounting bolts and withdraw the unit from the engine compartment. To reinstall, place the master cylinder flange onto the bulkhead mounting bolts and install the nuts. From inside the vehicle, attach the master cylinder pushrod to the pedal arm. Fill the master cylinder reservoir with hydraulic fluid. Adjust the clutch pedal. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Remove the newspapers or rags from under the master cylinder, being careful not to drip any fluid onto the paint. Replace the windshield washer fluid reservoir by sliding it into its retaining bracket.
