Start by unscrewing the power steering pressure and return lines from the steering gear. Mark the relationship of the intermediate shaft to the steering gear input shaft and remove the intermediate shaft-to-steering gear pinch bolt. Raise the front of the vehicle on jackstands and remove the left front wheel. Remove the inner fender splash shield and separate the relay rod from the Pitman arm. Remove the steering gear mounting bolts and nuts from the frame rail and detach the steering gear from the frame. If installing a new steering gear, remove the Pitman arm from the steering gear sector shaft. Install the new steering gear by following the reverse of the removal steps.
