Q:
How to remove and reinstall the transmission mount to raise and support the transmission securely for maintenance or repair work on Nissan Xterra? Posted by Customer
A:
Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Insert a large screwdriver or pry bar into the space between the transmission extension housing and the cross member and try to pry the transmission up slightly; it should move very little. Support the transmission with a floor jack, place a block of wood on the jack head to act as a cushion, remove the bolts and nuts attaching the mount to the cross member and transmission, raise the transmission slightly with the jack and remove the mount. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, be sure to tighten all nuts and bolts securely.

Q:
How to check and replace engine mounts and transmission mount on 3.5L V6 Nissan Xterra? Posted by Customer
A:
The two engine mounts are located on the passenger and driver's side of the vehicle attached to the engine block and to each frame rail. The transmission mount is mounted to the rear of the transmission and the transmission crossmember. During the check, the engine must be raised slightly to remove the weight from the mounts. To check the mounts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Support the engine/transmission from above using a hoist or three bar support fixture. Check the mounts for cracked, hardened, or separated rubber. Also, check for relative movement between the mounts and the engine or frame. If movement is noted, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. To slow deterioration, apply rubber preservative to the mounts. For replacement, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and setting the parking brake. Then, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the splash shields from under the vehicle. Remove the engine mount-to-frame nuts, two on each side. In the engine compartment, remove the engine mount-to-engine mount bracket nut(s), one on each side. Attach an engine hoist to the top of the engine for lifting, making sure not to use a jack under the oil pan. Raise the engine slightly until the engine mount can be removed. To remove the engine mount brackets, detach the four retaining bolts securing the mount bracket to each side of the engine. Installation is the reverse of removal, applying thread locking compound to the mount nuts before tightening them to the specific torque.

Q:
How to check and replace engine mounts on 2.4L four cylinder Nissan Frontier? Posted by Customer
A:
Engine mounts rarely need attention, but they should be replaced immediately if they are broken or deteriorated in order to prevent additional strain on the driveline which could lead to damage or wear. The engine must be raised slightly during this inspection so as to unload the load off the engine mounts. This requires lifting the vehicle and securing it firmly on jackstands, taking off splash shields and placing a jack under the oil pan of the engine. A big piece of wood should also be placed between the jack head and oil pan, after which, the engine is gently lifted until it just takes up its weight off the mounts. Thereafter, one should check for any cracked, hardened or separated rubber of the mounts. It is also necessary to check whether there's relative movement between mount plates and engine or frame; in case such occurrence is noted then lower engine before tightening mount fasteners. Rubber preservative should be used on mounts to slow down wear and tear. If it needs replacing then remove cable from negative terminal of battery, set parking brake & block rear wheels. The front of car should then be raised and conclusively supported through use of jack stands while removing splash shields from beneath it. Engine mount-to-frame bolts together with engine mount-to-mount bracket retaining nut are removed followed by attaching an engine hoist onto top part of engine for lifting purposes only. Slightly raise the motor until you can pull out its mount from underneath your vehicle. To detach this bracket from your motor, you will have to remove four retaining bolts that hold each piece down to each side of your motor. Reverse these steps in order to install it with heat shields over each mounting location and use thread locking compound on mounting nuts prior to torquing them specifically tight.
