To fully remove the outside mirrors, the first step is to take out the door trim panel, the second one is to take out the mirror trim cover using a mere Phillips head screwdriver. Subsequently, if the mirror has an electrical connector, unplug it, and thereafter unscrew the three bolts to pull out the mirror from the car. Installation is the process of putting thing together and is the opposite of the removal process. For the inside mirror, imagine removing a bottom of the U-shape formed by the two arms of the mirror on the car interior and then fitting a can opener beneath the necessary arm and twisting it upwards to remove the inside car mirror from its holder. To reinstall, a user just clinically places the mirror back to the retaining bracket.

Remove the door trim panel. On Pathfinder models, remove the cover over the mirror mounting bolts. If equipped with power mirrors, unplug the electrical connector. Remove the bolts and detach the mirror from the door. Installation is the reverse of removal. Insert a small screwdriver into the base of the mirror mounting bracket, and carefully pry rearward to disengage the mirror retaining spring from the mounting bracket. After the spring has been disengaged, slide the mirror up and off the mounting bracket. Installation is the reverse of removal. If the mounting bracket for the mirror has come off the windshield, it can be reattached with a special mirror adhesive kit available at auto parts stores. Clean the glass and support base thoroughly and follow the directions on the adhesive package, allowing the base to bond overnight before attaching the mirror.

Check the wires at the mirror for voltage using a test light while the ignition is ON and the selector switch is in the appropriate position. There should be voltage at one of the switch-to-mirror wires in each position, except the neutral "off" position.

To remove the door trim panel, you need to remove the cover over the mirror mounting bolts on Pathfinder models. If equipped with power mirrors, unplug the electrical connector. Then, remove the bolts and detach the mirror from the door.

If you hear the motors running but the mirror glass doesn't move, there's probably a problem with the drive mechanism inside the mirror. Remove and disassemble the mirror to locate the problem.

If the mirror still doesn't work after checking the switch, remove the mirror and check the wires at the mirror for voltage. Check with ignition ON and the mirror selector switch on the appropriate side. Operate the mirror switch in all its positions. There should be voltage at one of the switch-to-mirror wires in each switch position (except the neutral "off" position). If voltage isn't present in each switch position, check the wiring between the mirror and control switch for opens and shorts. If there's voltage, remove the mirror and test it off the vehicle with jumper wires. Replace the mirror if it fails this test.
