Q:
How to inspect the brake system,Brake Pedal and Brake Booster identifying potential issues on Nissan Titan? Posted by Customer
A:
Inspections of brakes are a must and they have to be done regularly and whenever wheels are removed or when the brake system is in question. Some indications that may be noticed on a vehicle with potential brake system flaws include pulling to one side, squealing or dragging sounds during braking, pedal remaining quite low or its vibration, as well as leakage of the brake fluid which may sometimes be seen around the inside part of the tire or wheel. When inspecting disc brakes, check for two pads (one outer and one inner) in each caliper and observe their thickness through an inspection window; if below minimum thickness replace them. For a more accurate measurement or if in doubt, remove and clean the pads, re-measure them and check disc thickness with micrometer. Also evaluate brake lines and hoses for any damage, wear, deformity or leakage particularly at rubber hoses near calipers and fix related problems by repairing rerouting or replacing them. Besides, carry out several tests on brake booster, the parking brake's effectiveness on a steep hillside should be considered while examining brake pedal height/freepay can help in adjusting it so as to ensure proper operation of braking.

Q:
How to check and adjust the brake pedal height on Nissan Armada equipped with electrically adjustable pedals? Posted by Customer
A:
On vehicles equipped with electrically adjustable pedals, move the pedals to their lowest position (closest to the floor) before checking or adjusting the brake pedal height. To check the brake pedal released height, remove the brake light and speed control switches. Peel back the carpet and insulator pad. With the brake pedal fully released, measure the distance from the top of the pedal to the floor. If the height is not correct, it must be adjusted. Loosen the pushrod locknut just in front of the power brake booster clevis. Turn the booster pushrod until the pedal height is correct. Tighten the locknut and reinstall the brake light and speed control switches. After adjusting the pedal height, check the freeplay. Press down lightly on the brake pedal and measure the distance that it moves freely before resistance is felt. The freeplay should be within the measurements. If it isn't, check and adjust the pedal height. Check the pedal depressed height only after the brake pedal released height and freeplay are within specification. With the engine running, press the brake pedal fully and measure the pedal pad-to-floor distance. If the height is less than the specified measurement, check the brake system for fluid leaks or other damage.
