    Q:
How do you properly remove and refit the timing chain, timing chain guides, timing chain tensioner, and variable timing sprocket on 1.6L petrol Nissan Juke? Posted by Customer
    A:
Intake Position No 1 cylinder should be at TDC on compression stroke; then the cylinder head cover and the timing chain cover must be detached. With No 1 cylinder at TDC, the markings on the camshaft sprockets should be lined up; if not rotate the crankshaft 360° clockwise and align the cylinder head cam lobes for firing on No 1 cylinder. Pressing the depression on the tensioner, it is necessary to insert a thin shifter and hold the plunger with force and place it in the body of the tensioner. To fully remove the chain tensioner, loosen the two retaining bolts, and keep the tensioner rod intact; besides, you should now adjust the upper pivot point of the chain tensioner guide and pull it off the crankcase. Two mounting bolts need to be unscrewed in order to pull off the chain front guide followed by pulling the timing chain off the crankshaft sprocket and later lifting the chain out of the engine. Loosen the exhaust camshaft sprocket retaining bolt when the camshafts are held with another spanner and remove the bolt and comes out of the sprocket. Indeed, to get to the sprocket on the inlet camshaft, the inlet camshaft has to be unscrewed; similarly, to get to the crankshaft sprocket, the oil pump chain and sprocket as a single assembly has to be undone. Check the teeth on camshaft and crankshaft sprockets for wear or damage and the linking parts of the timing chain and chain really for wear; an excessive side play means renewal of the chain. It is recommended to replace the timing chain if the miles on the engine or the car was high or if there has been a loud sound coming from the chain, and the chain as well as the sprockets have to be renewed in pairs. It should be checked to see whether the chain guides are worn out, and whether the chain tensioner is working properly and any which are worn should be replaced. To refit the crankshaft ensure that you have the engine piston at TDC, then turn the engine until the timing pin of the exhaust camshaft sprocket is lined up with the corresponding slot, tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt then place the timing chain round the crankshaft sprocket such that the coloured link faces the TDC mark. Set and securely fasten the chain front fixed guide and its bolts and set the chain rear tensioner guide and position it. Place back the chain tensioner, torque up the bolts on the chain tensioner and ensure that the plunger of the tensioner will pull the slack chain. Ensure that all the timing marks coalign, fit crank shaft pulley on the crank shaft, rotate the engine two revolutions clockwise to ensure the alignment, remove the crank shaft pulley and fit the timing chain cover then fit the crank shaft pulley and cylinder head cover.

    Q:
What should be verified after reattaching the components for the 2017 Nissan Juke? Posted by Customer
    A:
Verify that all timing marks are aligned with the chain links, fit the crankshaft pulley, turn the engine two complete turns, and check the timing marks again.
