To remove the oil pan, first take out the four retaining bolts for the oil pump pickup tube and then remove the tube itself. Next, from the front of the engine, remove the bolts securing the oil pump to the engine block. Gently break the oil pump gasket seal using a block of wood and a small hammer, then pull the oil pump forward to detach it from the engine block. Clean any old gasket material and sealant from the mating surfaces of the oil pump and engine block using a small scraper. For inspection, use a large Phillips screwdriver to take out the seven screws that hold the front and rear halves of the oil pump together, then clean all components in solvent and check for wear and damage. Remove the oil pressure regulator cap bolt, washer, spring, and valve, inspecting the sliding surface of the valve and the spring for any damage; if either is damaged, replace them as a set. Measure the clearances with a feeler gauge and compare them to the specified values, replacing the entire gear set or oil pump assembly if any clearances are excessive. After inspection, assemble the oil pump, tightening the retaining screws to the specified torque, and install the oil pressure regulator valve, spring, and washer, ensuring the cap is also tightened to the specified torque. To prepare for installation, apply gasket sealant to the oil pump gasket mounting surface, use new gaskets on all disassembled parts, and reverse the removal steps, tightening all fasteners to the specified torque while replacing the rubber O-ring before installing the oil pump pickup tube.
