- A:First of all, checking a water pump's functionality is vital to prevent engine damage. Two methods can be used to assess the pump while it's installed on the engine. Water pumps have weep holes for leak inspection, and a howling sound may indicate bearing failure. Shaft wear can be detected on both SOHC and DOHC engines. The old pump is removed, and the new one is installed after cleaning and applying sealant. The pump is attached to the engine, and bolts are threaded in carefully. The cooling system is refilled, and the engine is run to check for leaks. Timing chain noise may briefly occur on DOHC engines after this procedure.Posted by NissanPartsDeal Specialist
