Remove the pulley from the water pump and withdraw the pump from the cylinder block. Discard the old gasket. For diesel engines, remove the timing belt and rear timing belt cover. Check the pump for corrosion or roughness. If faulty, replace the pump. Clean the pump and cylinder block, fit a new gasket, and refit the pump. On petrol engines, refit the pump pulley.
