The spark plug wires should be checked at recommended intervals and any time new spark plugs are put in the engine; the wires must be inspected separately so that their firing order will not be interchanged. Pull out the plug wire from the spark plug by using an allen wrench or if using the boot style grip the boot and turn it while pulling back slightly on the boot do not pull on the wire. Check the internal part of the boot for white or green crusty powdery formation and the wire and the boot should have a correct clamp on the spark plug; if not, use pliers and carefully folded the metal connector in the boot till it is rightly fixed. Rub the wire with a clean cloth, paying attention to possible burns, cracks or other damages along the whole length of the wire; in no case one should make a sharp bend because this will lead to the breakage of the conductor within the wire. Remove the shoe of the wire from the distributor terminal, using wire boots and then inspect the presence of corrosion and proper fitting of the wire onto the terminal then reconnect the shoe of the wire into the distributor terminal. Examine the remaining spark plug wires end to end; connect each of the spark plug to the distributor shroud one after the other while ensuring the other end is connected rightly to the spark plug well. If new spark plug wires are required, buy a set particular to the engine model, that have the pre-cut wires with rubber boots terminated on them and replace the wires one at a time in order to avoid confusion in the firing order. Also, inspect distributor cap and rotor for wear out and or replace distributor cap and rotor while replacing spark plug wires proper procedure to replace them is to remove spark plug wires from old distributor cap one at a time and connect them to the new one in the right order so as to avoid confusion on firing order of the engine.
