    Q:
How to replace a rear crankshaft seal on 3.3L V6 Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
    A:
The transmission must be removed from the vehicle for this procedure. Carefully pry out the old Crankshaft Seal out of the retainer with a seal removal tool or screwdriver. Pry the seal out very carefully with a seal removal tool or screwdriver - if the crankshaft is damaged the new seal will leak! Apply multi-purpose grease to the crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new Crankshaft Seal. Preferably, a seal installation tool should be used to press the new seal into place. If the proper seal installation tool is unavailable, use a large socket, section of pipe or a blunt tool and carefully drive the new Crankshaft Seal into place. If you don't have a seal installation tool, use a blunt tool (such as a brass punch) to carefully work the edge of the seal evenly into the bore and around the crankshaft. The lip is stiff so carefully work it onto the seal journal of the crankshaft. Don't rush it or you may damage the seal. Install the seal squarely and only until flush with the back of the seal plate, no further. The remaining steps are the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How can the old seal be removed from the retainer for the 1996 Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
    A:
The old seal can be removed from the retainer by driving it out from the back side using a hammer and punch. It's important to note how far it's recessed into the retainer bore before removal.
