    Q:
What is the recommended procedure for removing and replacing the rear axle,Wheel Seal and Wheel Bearing on Nissan Titan? Posted by Customer
    A:
Whenever it is necessary to remove them, the manufacturer suggests replacing the axle retaining plate nuts with new ones. To remove, first loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Chock the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling and remove the wheel. Next, remove the brake caliper and wire it to the chassis so it doesn't hang by the brake hose. Remove the brake disc and disconnect the ABS wheel speed sensor and position it out of the way. Then, remove any nuts securing axle retaining plate to axle housing. Attach a slide hammer and adapter to an axle flange; then pull an axle from a housing. The disc brake dust shield will come out with the axle. The manufacturer suggests that any time an axle is pulled, both bearing and seal should be replaced on that axle shaft. The old bearing can be removed and a new one pressed on at a machine shop where one takes this axle for repairs. During bearing removal inspect ABS wheel sensor rotor replace if found necessary; if removing sensor rotor replace with new ABS sensor rotor only; else do not remove it at all! For installation wipe bore in axle housing clean and apply thin coat of grease to outer surface of axle bearing. Guide axleshaft straight into axle housing; rotate shaft slightly to engage splines on shaft with splines in differential side gear. Install, tighten and torque new axial retainer nut(s). What remains is just reversal of what has already been done or said above during installation procedures previously discussed earlier when removal operation was being carried out by manufacturers' instructions;. Check differential lubricant level add more if need be finally install wheel then tighten lug nuts. reibmaher with them they have removed manufacturer's recommendation about replacing such kind as retaining plate nut when ever they are removed so whenever you take these off put in fresh ones from maker sometimes even just after you return one off first thing to be done is loosening lug nuts after which raise vehicle back and provide it proper support on jackstands secure then chock front wheel to prevent vehicle rolling and take off wheel Therefore, remove brake caliper and wire it to the chassis so that it will not hang by brake hose. Remove brake disc and then disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor and move aside. After that, remove nuts that retain axle retaining plate to axle housing. You should connect slide hammer with an adapter to axle flange and pull the axle from housing. Once again, when you pull out the axle, the disc brake dust shield comes out too All axles must have their bearings replaced if they are removed by pulling them out as recommended by the manufacturer's instructions. The old bearing can be removed or a new one pressed on at a machining shop where one takes this axle for repairs During removal of bearing check ABS wheel sensor rotor replace if necessary; if removal of sensor rotor replace with new ABS sensor rotor only; else do not remove it at all! When installing clean bore in axle housing and put some grease on outer surface of axle bearing Push axleshaft straight into axle housing rotate shaft slightly to engage splines on shaft with splines in differential side gear New axial retainer nut(s) installed torqued properly; Installation is simply done backwards from there; Check differential lubricant level add more if need be finally install wheel then tighten lug nuts.
