Q:
How do you disconnect and replace the ignition switch and Ignition Lock Cylinder on Nissan Rogue? Posted by Customer
A:
Remove the cable that is connected to the negative terminal among the cables connected to the terminals of the battery. Take off the screw cap from the steering column and take out the wiring connector of the ignition switch. Unscrew the ignition switch and extract it from the lock cylinder housing, but note that there is a tab that needs to be pushed to sever the electrical connection before pulling the ignition switch back out and unscrewing the retaining screws. But prior to installing the new switch, position the hub of the switch at the blade on the ignition lock cylinder. The rest of the installation process is done in the exact opposite order of the removal process, and then connect the battery before the required re-learn procedures are done. Illustration 27 calls for the withdrawal of the ignition switch, the separation of the shift-interlock cable from the ignition lock cylinder housing, and the withdrawal of the shear-head bolts to disengage the ignition lock cylinder from the steering column, although use may have to be made of a drill and screw-extractor. Removal and installation process involves the removal of the nuts from the shear-head bolts and covered with washers before being tightened to the brake-off point where the heads of the bolts bust off and reinstalling the battery, and final re-learn process. The first step is to take out the heating and air conditioning control assembly. Now with the help of a plastic trim tool one must retract the clips on the side panel and later on take it off the instrument panel. Pull out the connector of the electrical terminals starting with the push-button ignition switch in addition to prying the clips on the terminal on the NATS antenna amp so as to demount the switch from the ring of the NATS antenna amp. To get the NATS antenna amp ring off the panel, unlock the two locking tabs and pull the ring off the face of the panel. Installation is the process of putting back something removed in the opposite manner as it was done in removal.

Q:
How to replace the ignition switch and lock cylinder on Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
A:
The negative battery terminal cable needs to be unplugged. Take off the knee bolster and steering column covers. After that, track the wiring harness from the ignition switch down the column to disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector. The key should be inserted and continuity checked between indicated terminals of the connector at each position on the ignition switch. Replace if different from specified continuity. Also, verify that there is no wear or looseness in the ignition lock cylinder and that its key positions align with markings on housing. If the ignition lock cylinder is defective, the entire steering column lock assembly must be replaced. To replace, follow steps to access the ignition switch. The ignition lock cylinder cannot be replaced by itself: the whole housing must be replaced. Remove shear-head bolts retaining ignition switch/ignition lock cylinder assembly and separate bracket halves from the steering column. This can be done by drilling a hole in each bolt's center and removing them with screw extractors. Put new switch assembly into place, install shear-head bolts as well as tightening them until they snap at their heads. Finally, make sure you center the airbag clock spring when you are installing a steering wheel where it was removed.

Q:
How do you disconnect the ignition switch and Ignition Lock Cylinder and perform the necessary installation procedures on Nissan Versa? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the steering column covers and disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by depressing the tab. Remove the screws and pull the switch from the ignition lock cylinder housing, ensuring the hub of the new switch is aligned with the blade on the ignition lock cylinder during installation. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse of the removal procedure, followed by reconnecting the battery and performing the necessary re-learn procedures. For the ignition lock cylinder housing, remove the ignition switch and, on models with an automatic transaxle, detach the shift interlock cable from the ignition lock cylinder housing. Remove the shear-head bolts by drilling through their center and using a screw extractor, then install new shear-head bolts, tightening them until the heads break off. Reconnect the battery and perform the necessary re-learn procedures. Up to four intelligent key transponders can be programmed to the vehicle, and a weak battery in the intelligent key transmitter is a common cause of a no start; testing the battery strength at a parts store is advisable. If the intelligent key is left in the glove box or on the dash, the vehicle may not start. For push-button replacement, remove the left-hand lower trim panel from the instrument panel, release the locking tabs to the NATS antenna amp, and remove the antenna. Press in on the tabs to the ignition start button from the back side of the trim panel and slide the button assembly out. Installation is the reverse of removal. To access the remote keyless entry receiver, remove the glove box, disconnect the electrical connector, and release the locking tab with a small screwdriver to remove the receiver, again following the reverse for installation. In an emergency situation where the vehicle cannot be put into Park, shut it off by holding the ignition start/stop button for more than 2 seconds or pressing the start/stop button repeatedly more than 3 times within 1.5 seconds.

Q:
How do you properly remove and refit the ignition switch lock assembly on Nissan Juke? Posted by Customer
A:
New shear-bolts must be used when refitting the lock assembly. To remove the lock assembly, first disconnect the battery negative terminal. Lower the steering column to its lowest point and remove the steering column shrouds. Disconnect the two wiring connectors from the left-hand side of the steering column. For models with an intelligent key system, disconnect the wiring connector from the top of the ignition switch. Next, disconnect the wiring connector to the transponder ring around the ignition switch, undo the retaining screw, and withdraw the transponder ring from around the switch. To remove the lock assembly, drill out and remove the two shear-bolts from the top of the steering column, then withdraw the two sections of the lock casting from the steering column, noting that the lock assembly cannot be removed from the casting. Refitting is a reversal of removal, but when refitting the lock assembly, use two new shear-bolts and tighten the bolts until the heads break off.

Q:
How to check and replace the ignition switch and Ignition Lock Cylinder in Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
A:
This check procedure applies to 1999 and earlier models. Due to the complexity of the electrical system on later models, the switch should be diagnosed by a dealer service department or other qualified auto repair facility. First, disable the airbag system. Next, remove the driver's knee bolster and steering column covers. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector located about six inches down the column from the ignition switch. Check the connector for continuity between the indicated terminals with the key in each position. If the continuity is not as specified, replace the switch. Additionally, check the ignition lock cylinder in each position to ensure it isn't worn or loose and that the key position corresponds to the markings on the housing; if the ignition lock cylinder is faulty, the entire steering column lock assembly will need to be replaced. To replace the switch, access it by following the initial steps to disconnect the electrical connector and remove the switch mounting screws. Install the new switch and harness. The ignition lock cylinder cannot be replaced by itself; the whole housing must be replaced. Remove the shear-head bolts retaining the ignition switch/ignition lock cylinder assembly and separate the bracket halves from the steering column, which can be done by drilling out the bolts and using a screw extractor. Finally, place the new switch assembly in position, install the new shear-head bolts, and tighten them until the heads snap off, ensuring to center the airbag clockspring before installing the steering wheel.
