Nissan 300ZX Oil Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do oil filter changes serve as essential preventive maintenance for home mechanics on Nissan 300ZX?
A: Oil changes are a standard practice for all car owners and for home mechanics it is even more so as the used oil loses its efficiency due to dilution and contamination of the particles that accumulate in it which cause early wear of the engine's parts if the oil has not been changed for a long time. It is recommended to change it after every oil revision since it does not cost a lot, and since it plays a very crucial role of filtering, one that, when not well performed, will result in a lot of harm. These are a wrench for the oil pan drain plug, an oil filter wrench, a six-quart receptacle for the old oil, a funnel for the new oil and finally some newspapers or paper towels for the dirty wipe ups. One can use hoist, ramps or jack stands to be in a better of position while working on the underside of the vehicle but extreme care has to be taken while working below a car which is supported by a jack only. It is advantageous to become acquainted with the location of the oil drain plug and filter since some engine parts may be warm. Bringing the engine up to normal operating temperature helps with the better oil drainage and the appropriate type of oil can be obtained from the owner's manual. Once the loose change is properly lifted with the car, then tools and rags should be laid beneath it, and a drain pan placed below the drain plug since the oil may pour out at first. The inspection of the drain plug can be made by removing it with a wrench while neglecting to mention the necessity to wear gloves when working with hot components. If additional oil has dripping down to the oil pan, the drain plug has to be cleaned before it is tightened to its recommended torque. The oil filter can then being reached and tightened using an oil filter wrench and if tight the filter can be pryed off with a metal bar or screwdriver. It is recommended that it should be compared with the new one of size and type and the area for Mounting the new filter should be clean so as to form a proper seal with it. Before fitting, a thin layer of oil should be applied on the new filter's gasket, and the filter tightened only by hand. Once everything has been shifted from beneath the car, new oil can be introduced to the engine through the filler neck; one should be able to check on the amount of the oil on the dipstick after 3 quarts have been added into the engine. The engine should be started and ran for a few minutes to allow the new oil to circulate through the engine and then turned off and the oil checked for signs of leaks and the dip stick should read at the full mark. Daily checks for leakage and the level of oil is advised after the change and for the next few days. Last but not least, the collected old oil must be disposed at the reclamation center or any auto repair shops, in proper container.
