  Q: How to properly remove and install a Nissan Frontier hood?

  A: Use blankets or pads to cover the cowl area of the body and the Fenders in order to preserve the body and paint while lifting off the hood. Scribe alignment marks around the hinge flanges to ensure proper alignment during installation, using paint or a permanent-type felt-lip marker. Disconnect the windshield washer hoses and any electrical connectors from the hood. An assistant should support its weight as you remove hinge-to-hood bolts and lift it off. Take off the hood. The reverse of removal is installation. After loosening bolts, fore-and-aft adjustment of the hood is done by moving it in relation to its hinge flanges and side-to-side adjustment of by moving it about between its hinge flanges . Therefore, scribe or trace a line around entire hinge plate so that one can see how much it has moved. Loose bolts and move hood into correct alignment but only a little at a time. Tighten hinge bolts down gently then lower hood carefully to check for alignment. If necessary after installation, adjust up-and-down as well as from side-to-side on radiator support so that whole Hood Latch assembly closes secure and flush with fenders. To make this adjustment, scribe a line around mounting bolts for hood latch for reference points before loosening them and repositioning latch assembly as necessary. Retighten mounting bolt after adjustment . Finally, check how the hood Bumpers on the radiator support are aligned with respect to fenders when you close it. Periodically lubricate white lithium-base grease into these hinges as well as their latches to prevent binding and wear.
