Nissan Maxima Brake Proportioning Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What are the differences in proportioning valve configurations between Nissan Maxima?
A: On vehicles produced in 1993 and 1994 model year, the proportioning valve is internally built in the master cylinder. For 1995 and later models there is no Anti-lock Brake System in it then two proportioning valves are installed in the master cylinder and for the models which have ABS a remote dual proportioning valve is installed. These valves cannot be serviced, if the check is needed it's recommended to do it a dealer service department or a shop that uses pressure gauges. If the valve is leaking or if it is decided to be bad, then the same has to be replaced by disconnecting the Brake Lines with flare-nut wrench and unbolting the valve from its mounting or unscrewing it from the master cylinder. As if often the case after a mechanical adjustment has been made, there is the need to bleed the brake system after the new valve has been put in place.
