The Throttle Body of Nissan Maxima vehicles regulates the flow of air into the Nissan Maxima engines; containing a butterfly valve that opens when the accelerator pedal of the vehicle is pressed, and closes when the accelerator pedal is released. The older models came equipped with what was known as Throttle Body Injection or TBI, while new models employ Multi Port or MPFI that has a separate fuel delivery. ETC for the most part has substituted mechanical linkage giving better modulation and interacting with safety features. - Q: How to remove and install the throttle body on a Nissan Maxima?A: This procedure is shown on a 1993 through 1999 model. The throttle body on 2000 and later models is slightly different, but this procedure pertains to all models. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the air filter outlet tube from the intake duct or throttle body. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connectors from the throttle body. Also, label and detach all vacuum hoses from the throttle body. Detach the Accelerator Cable and, if equipped, the cruise control cable. Detach the coolant hoses from the throttle body. Plug the lines to prevent coolant loss. Remove the throttle body mounting bolts. On 1993 and 1994 models, remove the intake duct. Remove the throttle body and gasket. Remove all traces of old gasket material from the throttle body and air intake plenum. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new gasket. Adjust the accelerator cable and the cruise control cable. Check the coolant level and add, if necessary.
