What steps should be taken before beginning the procedure for removing and replacing exhaust manifolds on Nissan Quest?

Before beginning this procedure, ensure the engine is completely cool. Start by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery and supporting the vehicle on jackstands. Apply penetrating oil to the exhaust manifold fasteners and allow it to soak. Remove the air inlet and air cleaner housing from the throttle body. For 1994 and later models, take off the bolts and heat shield from the crossover pipe at the transaxle end of the engine, then unbolt the flange connections between the crossover pipe and the front manifold. Note that 1993 models do not use a crossover pipe, as each exhaust manifold connects directly to the exhaust pipe. For the front manifold, remove the bracket holding the engine oil dipstick to access the manifold fasteners, then remove the upper row of manifold nuts, working from the ends toward the middle. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor and detach the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Be aware that on some 1999 and later models, the catalytic converter is part of the front exhaust manifold, and some models may have a separate heat shield over the pipe-to-manifold flange that needs removal. From below, remove the lower row of manifold fasteners and take out the manifold. For the rear manifold, set aside the coolant recovery tank for clearance, disconnect the electrical connectors in the throttle body area, and label them before separation. Support the engine and remove the front and rear engine mounts and crossmember on 1993 models, then detach the rear engine mount bracket from the engine block. Unbolt the EGR pipe from the rear manifold, detach the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold on 1993 models, and remove the rear manifold nuts to take out the manifold. Inspect the manifolds and fasteners for cracks and damage, then use a scraper to remove old gasket material and carbon deposits from the mating surfaces. If the gasket was leaking, have the manifold checked for warpage and resurfaced if necessary. Position new gaskets over the cylinder head studs, install the manifold, and thread the mounting nuts into place, starting with the rear manifold and crossover pipe. Tighten the nuts to the specified torque, reinstall the remaining parts in reverse order of removal, using new gaskets when connecting the exhaust pipe to the front manifold, and finally, run the engine to check for exhaust leaks.
