To replace the thermostat, you need to drain the cooling system and remove the splash guard underneath the engine. For the 2.0L engine, you should loosen the clamp and remove the lower radiator hose from the thermostat water inlet housing. Then, remove the water inlet-to-thermostat housing mounting bolts and remove the water inlet. After that, remove the thermostat, install a new sealing ring onto it, and insert it into the housing. For the 2.5L engine, you should loosen the clamp and remove the lower radiator hose from the water inlet housing. Then, remove the water inlet bolts and remove the water inlet. Remove the thermostat from the thermostat housing, install a new sealing ring onto it, and insert it into the housing. Finally, refill the cooling system and check for leaks and proper thermostat operation.

It should be tapped with a soft-face hammer to jar it loose.
