    A:
First of all, you can remove the engine cover, remove the air intake duct, and drain the engine coolant. Next, disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor. The ECT sensor is placed on the inner side of the left cylinder head, near the front upper corner of the head. Using a new sealing washer, install the ECT sensor and tighten it to the torque. Refill the cooling system.

    Q:
How is the ECT sensor removed and installed in the engine on Nissan Versa? Posted by Customer
    A:
In the engine situated at the left area is where a coolant temperature sensor is located. First remove the engine cover and air intake duct, then drain some coolant from the engine to reduce spillage of coolant. After that, disconnect electrical connector from ECT sensor by depressing the tab on electrical connector. Remove the sensor and discard the washer, as a fresh one should be fitted. To have it fixed back follow what you did when you removed it. Lastly recharge your cooling system.

    Q:
What type of sensor is the engine coolant temperature sensor, and how does it work for the 1999 Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
    A:
The engine coolant temperature sensor is a thermistor, a variable resistor that changes its resistance as temperature changes. It senses coolant temperature, with resistance decreasing as temperature increases and vice versa. The PCM uses this information to calculate the engine's operating temperature.
